Your Heart Attack will be One Too Many

Medical Staffer and ChartTwenty-five years ago having a heart attack proved riskier and far more dangerous than now. Recommended treatment now starts even before the EMT’s arrive. In the emergency room, the procedures move you through evaluation quickly, and diagnosis comes rapidly with more precision. On that score, the donations you made to the American Heart Association have been put to good use. The survival rate reflects the improvements. However,

We have more heart disease than we have ever had. Prevention, though it gets a strong focus in the media, apparently falls on deaf ears. We hope the ears do not belong to you. We hope you have heard and are heeding the message.

Somewhere in America someone has a heart attack about every thirty seconds, 1.5 million cases per year, and almost one-third do not survive. Granted, some of these are older and we assume the myth that disease will automatically come with old age. The tragic news shows that more and more young people experience the threat. What’s going on?

This is a quote from The Journal of the American Medical Association, Vol. 176, No. 9, dated June 3, 1961, page 806. Almost 50 years ago, the American Medical Association knew that a well-planned vegetarian diet could prevent most heart attacks. Please note, this is from 1961.

“Every one of those heart attacks is a terrible tragedy, as it could have been avoided. So many people die needlessly because of wrong, weak, and practically worthless information from the government, physicians, dietitians, and even health authorities like the American Heart Association. Conventional guidelines are simply insufficient to offer real protection for those wanting to protect themselves from heart disease.”

“If you are an American over the age of forty, your chance of having atherosclerosis (hardening) of your blood vessels is over 95 percent. You may think, ‘Heart disease won’t happen to me!’ But I have news for you: It has already happened, and your chance of dying from a heart attack because of your atherosclerosis is about 50 percent. Your exercise program and your Americanized low-fat diet won’t help you much, either.”

We speak from experience. Twenty-five years ago one of the riskier treatments was used to restore the possibility of life when our heart attack came. During recovery, a hospital chaplain, not a medical practitioner, clued us in on the role that diet plays as a cause of heart disease.

We’d like to share more of this truth with you. Unless you have cleaned up your body’s systems with a veggie-loaded eating lifestyle, you probably share in the risk, and you add to it with every meal and with every snack.

About veggie1

Steve and Freda made the transition from the SAD (Standard American Diet) over a period of time, becoming more convinced of the health available through a different lifestyle. We're glad we did. Natives to the Western North Carolina mountains, we claim to be hillbilly vegans. Imagine that. We are parents of two and grandparents of six. We look to Jesus as Lord, Savior, and friend
